Cody L. Batchelor Takes Oath As Lawyer

On Saturday, Nov. 9, Cody L. Batchelor of Monticello swore an oath in the Jasper County Courthouse before the Honorable Judge Terry N. Massey of the Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit to support and defend the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Georgia as an attorney and counselor.

Mr. Batchelor graduated from the Georgia State University College of Law with a juris doctor back in May and spent the summer studying for the two-day Georgia bar exam that was administered at the end of July. The Office of Bar Admissions announced the list of applicants who passed the exam roughly three months later on October 25.

In order to practice, Mr. Batchelor was required to formally swear-in before a Superior Court judge in the circuit in which he planned to practice. He performed an official swearing-in before the Honorable James D. Ozburn in the judge’s chambers in Monroe, Walton County.

He has been working with the Walton County Public Defenders Office in Monroe since October 1. Mr. Batchelor chose to perform a second, ceremonial swearing-in to allow his close family in Monticello to attend.

Mr. Batchelor is a 2009 graduate of Jasper County High School, and a 2013 graduate of the University of Miami.
