Mrs. Mamie Bell Williams
A homegoing ceremony for Mrs. Mamie Bell Williams, who died November 12, 2019, was held Saturday, Nov. 16, at New Enon Baptist Church in Madison. Rev. Bernard Hamp, pastor, officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mamie Bell Horton Williams was born on September 18, 1924 to the parentage of the late Fannie Bell Horton and Henry Harvey in Madison. She was the first born of their 10 children.
She received her education in the Morgan County school system. At an early age she joined New Enon Baptist Church where she served faithfully in many auxiliaries. Mamie Bell sang in the choir, usher board, and she was also the treasurer. She was the eldest mother of the church. Mamie Bell served many years of singing the gospel of Jesus with her sister, the late Willie Pearl Rogers. She was a very respected member of the church.
Mamie was known as “Big Ma” and “Flutie” to her beloved family. She loved flowers, going to church every Sunday, and cooking.
Mother Williams departed this life at the age of 95. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Fannie, Corine, Willie Pearl and Hattie; brothers, Aaron, Maxie (Anna), James (Doris) and Horace (Viola); and, children, Sidney, Willie James, Arlanaster and Mary.
Mamie Bell leaves to cherish her memories, four children, Samuel Williams, Willie Bell Stewart, Fannie (Willie) Dennis and Margaret (Ronnie) Smith; 13 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Gracie Scott; sister-in-law, Hattie Horton, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Smith and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
