Emily Mills, Angie Marks Named Piedmont STARs

Emily Mills was named STAR (Student-Teacher Achievement Recognition) student for Piedmont Academy, and she chose Mrs. Angie Marks as her STAR teacher.
Last week readers read about Mari Jablonski who is STAR Student for Jasper County High School (JCHS). She chose Christie McAlum as her STAR teacher. All the STAR students and teachers will be honored at a breakfast on Friday, Jan. 31, at 8:30 a.m. sponsored by the Monticello Civic Club.
Miss Mills said this about Mrs. Marks: “Throughout my time at Piedmont Academy, very few educators have impacted my life the way Mrs. Angie Marks has. Over the past two years, Mrs. Marks has molded me into a student who is always eager to learn and has helped me to broaden my intellectual horizons. I greatly admire how she is never afraid to challenge me to think on a deeper level or push me to be the very best that I can be in all aspects of my life.

“Through her constant encouragement, I have realized the depth of my academic potential, the true value of hard work, and my capability to accomplish anything I set my mind to. I have never known a teacher to be more devoted to instilling into her students the principles of hard work and dedication. Mrs. Marks will forever be an active role model in my life; her intelligence, diligence, kindness, and devotion are all qualities that inspire me daily and embody everything that I aspire to become one day.”
Mrs. Marks said: “I am incredibly honored to be chosen Star Teacher by Miss Emily Mills. She exemplifies the highest intellectual curiosity and work ethic, qualities which make her an exceptional Star Student.
“As a student, Emily’s intelligence allows her to shine. She is the student who asks the questions that I must research or consider for quite a while before giving an answer. She understands concepts and problems that most teenagers have never considered, and she is able to communicate her thoughts in oral and written form. Her writing is highly sophisticated and is grammatically flawless. As a matter of fact, she had more difficulty writing her personal college entrance essays than a sophisticated research analysis on grade inflation. An intellectual, Emily’s work is always of the highest quality and illustrates the thinking of a profound mind.
“Secondly, Emily’s work ethic is superior and rare. Always a chapter ahead, her teachers struggle to keep up with her progress throughout a course. Turning one assignment in on Monday, she is already planning for the next assignment that may not be due until the next week. She is a challenge to teach and this fact forces her teachers to “stay on their toes,” but her intelligence and work ethic are the results of exceptional intellectual curiosity. Emily truly wants to know the answers to the problems and puzzles she finds in the world.
“In conclusion, Emily will be attending the University of Georgia this fall. The University of Georgia, one of our country’s premier research universities where I am sure she will challenge her professors with her intellect and passion, as well as flourish in an outstanding academic environment.”
