Bunnist Lee Gantt Ammons
Funeral services for Mrs. Bunnist Lee Gantt Ammons, age 66, were held January 16, 2020 at St. James A.M.E. Church with burial in the New Community Cemetery in Adgateville. Rev. Dr. Jimmy Horton officiated.
She died January 10.
“Lucy,” as she was affectionately known, was born May 6, 1953 in Hillsboro to Marvin and Louella Gantt. She attended Jasper County High School and worked at Monticello Manufacturing, Georgia Pacific, and Harris Sample Books, all in Monticello.
On July 1, 1983, she married Hulon Ammons and they provided love and support to many family members.
Without a doubt, Lucy was a very genuine person. She had many friends and loved the outdoors as she was always pulling weeds, planting flowers, or burning leaves. Lucy was consistently attentive to the needs of others and never hesitated to prepare meals, make visits, or provide financial support to whomever she could. Truly selfless, she opened her home to family who needed time to get on their feet as they reached for bigger goals. She made daily phone calls to family just to say hello and was known for her protective spirit, kind smile, and loving manner.
Mrs. Ammons was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Annie Carrie Whidby; and brothers, Marvin Gantt, Jr. and Lewis Gantt.
Survivors include her husband of 36 years, Hulon Ammons; six siblings, Barron Goolsby, Bobby Gantt, Gloria Thomas, Geneva Dudley, Idella Gantt, and Orlinda Bishop. Also a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
Smith and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
