Burglary Solved; Shooting Appears Self-Inflicted

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) responded to a burglary call at Shiloh Baptist Church off Martin Lane near Shady Dale last November, and the church’s sound equipment and electronics had been stolen.

Eight weeks later, the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) of the JCSO has solved the crime. The JCSO was able to make an arrest as well as locate and recover most of the stolen items.

Marquaiz Telismat, 22, of Covington was charged with burglary in the second degree as a result of the investigation. He is currently in custody at the Fulton County jail on non-related charges.

Another case the JCSO has been investigating is that of a shooting on East Mourning Dove Court reported on January 16. During the course of the investigation, resources were requested from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). Investigators and crime scene technicians with the JCSO and the GBI are investigating the incident. The preliminary results of this investigation indicate that the gunshot wound was self-inflicted, however this investigation is still ongoing and active, no further details can be released at this time, said the press release this week from the JCSO.
