Commissioners Discuss Applicants

The Jasper County Commissioners, at a work session Monday evening, reviewed the applicants to serve on various volunteer boards for the county.

Only one person applied for the 911 Authority Board, and two people—the ones already serving—applied to serve on the Joint Development Authority (JDA).

Next the commissioners discussed the 19 people who applied to be appointed or re-appointed to the Development Authority of Jasper County (DAJC). DAJC Chair Jan Gaston was in attendance as was executive director David Dyer. Mr. Dyer offered his opinion on those seeking re-appointment, but was not asked to comment on the others.

The board ruled out one or two who either had withdrawn their names or did not qualify because they don’t live in the county.

The board asked staff to invite some of the applicants to next Monday’s meeting, March 2, and the others to a called meeting on March 16. Staff is also to inform the applicants of the requirements of the board, and make sure they are still interested and can make the meetings and the training.

The commissioners plan to interview those two evenings, and make a decision at their regular April meeting on April 6.
