MS Canes Inaugural Soccer Season
Jasper County Middle School has begun its inaugural season of soccer.
The girls and boys teams, under the tutelage of head Coach Ashley Clegg, faced John Milledge Academy last week before facing G.M.C on Monday.
David Ramsey shares the coaching duties of both squads with Clegg as the girls assistant coach is Joan Frix and the boys assistant coach is Stacey Moran.
The Lady Canes middle school soccer squad includes Haley Beverly (#12), Grace Degarmo (#5), Mackenzie Diaz (#15), Breanna Fowler (#7), Lorellei Fowler (#18), Maritza Garcia (#9), Karen Lara (#22), Betzaida Garcia (#4), Colbie Ramsey (#8), Jorden Reed (#21), Becky Leigh Wilson (#3), Addyson Anderson (#2), Maesyn Hayes (#17), Madysen Johnson (#10), Addison Jones (#37), Chloe Key (#14), Kayla Pulliam (#11), Madelyn Taylor (#26), Yareli Torres (#1), and Isabella Whisnant (#16).
The Canes middle school soccer squad includes Alex Torres (#23), Carson Clark (#17), Bryson Jackson (#11), Angel Martin (#14), William Morgan (#3), Julio Sanchez (#4), Ricardo Hernandez (#19), Rion Seabolt (#8), Travis Teran (#12), Ivan Bautista (#13), J.D. Williams (#2), Robert Arizmendi (#10), William Garvin (#7), Ben Haase (#20), Lane Lackey (#9), Andrew Smith (#6), Bryce Thompson (#33), Jake Wilcox (#26), Rutger Woods (#1), Harrison Sawyer (#36), and Brayan Solis (#25).
The teams took on GMC Monday with the girls finishing in a 1-1 tie. Betzaida Martin scored the only goal for the Lady Canes with Grace DeGarmo saving eight shots as goalie. Martiza Martin had several shots on goal in the last few minutes, to almost bring JCMS ahead, but failed to sink one in.
The boys defeated G.M.C. 3-0. Ricardo Hernandez scored two goals with Angel Martin scoring the third. Harrison Sawyer and Will Morgan helped ensure the third goal made it in by following the shot up and sinking it in the net. Alex Torres had two saves on goal and Ben Haase saved the third shot on goal by GMC. The boys defense was led by Travis Teran, Ivan Bautista, Bryson Jackson and Julio Sanchez who all played well and only allowed three shots total on goal.
The middle school squads will take on Loganville Middle School today, March 5 at Rose Bowl Field, weather permitting. Two on the road contests have been scheduled next week with travel to Social Circle set Wednesday, March 11 and travel to John Milledge set Thursday, March 12. All games begin with the girls at 4:30 p.m. and the boys at 5:30 p.m.
