Burglars Hit Stores
On March 16, at approximately 12:39 a.m. deputies of the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office responded to Tyson’s Country Store to investigate a burglary.
Upon arrival they saw that glass had been broken out of the front door. The store owner arrived on scene to assist, and they determined that cigarettes and alcoholic beverages had been taken. An object that was used to break the glass on the door was also left behind.
Jasper County Sheriff’s Office Investigators responded to the scene and it was determined that Newton County had three similar convenience store burglaries the same night. A short time later, the same individuals attempted to break into Larry’s 4-Way, but were unable to get inside.
As both Jasper and Newton counties patrolled searching for the vehicle, deputies with Newton County Sheriff’s Office located the vehicle, attempted to stop the vehicle and were ultimately involved in a high-speed chase that resulted in the suspect vehicle wrecking in Newton County.
The vehicle that the suspects were driving was later determined to be stolen. All three suspects were taken into custody the same night. All three of the indivudals are juveniles, so their names cannot be released, but they will be charged in Jasper County with burglary in the second degree, criminal damage to property in the second degree. In Newton County suspects will be charged with obstruction of law enforcement officer, fleeing and attempting to elude, several counts of burglary in the second degree and a host of other charges are anticipated there.
On another note, Blake Lee Brugonone, 18, of McDonough has been charged with failure to stop at stop sign (5 counts), laying drag, criminal trespass, central lane for turn, passing in a no passing zone, failure to yield right of way while turning left (2 counts), improper passing, reckless driving, driving while license suspended/revoked, no proof of insurance, speeding, improper exhaust system, headlight violation and fleeing/attempting to elude a police officer. Mr. Brugonone led officers on a chase up and down West Washington Street Monday night before wrecking with a patrol car just east of Burney Drive.
Other incidents investigated in the last week include two separate burglaries on Sandpiper Drive. Both resulted in numerous items being taken. Also, a set of golf clubs and bag along with other items were taken from a vehicle at an address on Jackson Lake Road. Deputies also are looking into the theft of a license plate from a vehicle on Funderburg Drive, and two cases of identity fraud.
