Mrs. Leah Braswell Dumas
Honoring the Spirit of Evangelist Leah Braswell Dumas was on Saturday, April 18, 2020 at noon at Rosa Mae Braswell Cemetery in Hillsboro.
Bishop Patricia Standifer, Officiate/Eulogist Evangelist Leah Dumas, the daughter of the late Jesse and Overseer Rosa Tillman Braswell, was born November 23, 1955, in Round Oak. She departed this life on April 14, 2020 while a patient at Navicent Health, Macon.
Leah was a product of the Jones County School System. She attended Bradley-Wayside Elementary School, and was a member of the Jones County High School class of 1973. During her senior year, her classmates voted her “1973 Most Favorite.”
In 1974, Leah was sent to Los Angeles, Calif. by her mother. Her sister, Linda Jones, had just given birth and Overseer Braswell sent Leah to help care for the baby. She later moved to the beach city of Santa Monica before buying a house in Pasadena near the famous Rose Bowl. She would go on to attend Santa Monica College while working at the May Co. Department Store which is now Macy’s. Her creativity and talent were much appreciated while working for the C.A. Robertson Firm. Prior to returning to Georgia, Leah was a very successful New York Life associate.
A lady of many talents, Leah was known for her decorating skills and her delicious pies. Additionally, she was a poet, a writer having published a book entitled “The River Jordan,” and she was an artist. Leah would go on to start her own Avon business and was recognized as being the “Top Producer” in the United States.
Being reared in a Christian family, Leah dedicated her life to Christ at an early age. For more than 10 years, while in California, Leah attended Crenshaw Christian Center Church under the leadership of Dr. Fredrick Price where she worked in the Prison & Helps Ministry. After returning to Georgia in 2002, she became a member of Holy Nation Church in Hillsboro where she was a faithful member until her demise.
On June 5, 2004, Leah and Harold Dumas were joined in holy matrimony. They were looking forward to celebrating their 16th wedding anniversary.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by four siblings; Jessie Alexander, Albert Braswell, Christine Lombard, Bernice Jones and two nephews: Jacoby Braswell and Troy Ammons.
Left to cherish her memories is a devoted and loving husband, Minister Harold Dumas, stepson; Dr. Hardray Dumas, siblings; Early (Mary) Braswell, Linda (Fredrick) Jones, Pastor Gwen B. Davis, Bishop Pat (Eddie) Standifer, Joseph Braswell, Apostle James Braswell, Debora Braswell, Pastor Donnie (April) Braswell. Connie (Eddie) Gray, Aunts; Maurene B. Clemons, Dr. Mary B. (Ike) Houston, Eugenia Smith, Odessa Dickey, Hattie Ford, uncles; Carlton (Gloria) Braswell, Julius (Betty) Holmes, God-Children; Mariah & Corben Bostic, Elliot & Asher Wilson, God-Sister; Gloria Washington and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Smith and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
