Mrs. Ella Joyce Whiting
A celebration of life for Ella Joyce Whiting was held on Saturday, May 30, 2020 at South View Cemetery in Monticello.
Ms. Whiting was born to the late Neal Freeman, Jr. and Margaret Clark on February 27, 1942 in Monticello.
Ms. Whiting received her education from Jasper County Training School and graduated in 1960. After finishing school, Ella’s high school sweetheart joined the U.S. Air Force where they were blessed to be together as one. She united in holy matrimony on March 10, 1962 to the love of her life the late Roosevelt Whiting, Sr. The two love birds traveled to many places and lived in many states across the United States. After many years of deployment, the couple landed in Sumter, S.C. at Shaw Air Force Base; which became her home away from home.
At an early age, Ms. Whiting began her spiritual journey with the Lord at St. John C.M.E. Church in Monticello. She later moved her membership to Cherryvale Baptist Church in Sumter, S.C. She served on the Missionary Board and faithfully on the following committees: decorating, kitchen aide, nursery, and hospitality; and, anywhere else needed in the house of the Lord until her health began to fail.
Mrs. Whiting’s family was always top flight and her children and grandchildren would supersede over anything. Her hobbies were planting flowers, crossword puzzles, cooking and playing lottery. However, her passion was taking care of people in her community.
To fulfill this passion, Ella was the mother of the parks where she resided—Briarcliff Mobile Home Park and Terwood Mobile Home Park in Sumter, S.C. Ella’s life was as beautiful as the flowers that she loved. Her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew and loved her. Ella quietly departed this life on Saturday, May 23, 2020 after a brief stay at National Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Sumter, S.C.
Ella was preceded in death by her parents; second dad, John Thomas Davis; husband; loving son, Tony Whiting; grandson, Antoine Osborne; sister, Vivian Freeman; and brother, Johnny L. Davis, Sr.
Ella leaves to cherish her memories, three children: Roosevelt Whiting, Jr. “Deno” of Phoenix, AZ, Terry Lee Whiting (Lisa) of Raleigh, N.C. and Allen Whiting of Los Angeles, CA.
