RALLY FOR EQUALITY

About a dozen people turned out on the Monticello Square Saturday for a rally centered around recent accounts of police brutality, but as organizer Thomas Griggs said…it’s really about equality.

Equal rights for all, regardless of race, is what he is speaking up for, and wants to see change in all aspects of life that sometimes short change people of color. He said it is not just about how law enforcement treats minorities, but about all aspects of life.

Another rally is planned for this Saturday, June 13, beginning at 9 a.m. at West View Park. Mr. Griggs says all persons who are interested in furthering the cause and seeing real change are invited to join in. The group is expected to walk from West View Park up to and around the Square.

Meanwhile, many of the churches in the community have banded together and are planning a prayer vigil for our community in unity for Sunday, June 14, at 7:30 p.m. at the Recreation Department off Hwy. 212 west.
