Lady Cougar Softball Looks to New Season

The Piedmont Academy fast-pitch softball team is hoping for more success on the diamond as the 2020 season begins to appear on the horizon.

Coach Joe Johnson’s team began on-the-field workouts this week in preparation for a new season set to begin July 24-25 at a tournament hosted by Windsor Academy in Macon.

It was Windsor Academy, in fact, which ended the 2019 season for the Lady Cougars in the state semifinals sweeping a best-of-three series.

Johnson, who is entering his second season directing the program, said he is still in the final stages of finalizing the 2020 schedule. The home opener is currently set for August 11 against Loganville Christian Academy. Piedmont will also host an August 15 doubleheader against Georgia FCA.

Other opponents on the schedule for the upcoming season will include Robert Toombs, Fullington, Gatewood, LaGrange Academy, Gatewood and Eastside High School.

The Lady Cougars return the bulk of their roster for 2020 as they hope to make another deep run in the postseason.
