Jack Lawrence ‘J.L.’ Card
Jack Lawrence Card, “J.L.” to most, of Monticello, was born July 6, 1932 to the late Preston and Plummie Card of Hillsboro.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Marilyn E. Felton.
He attended and graduated from Jasper County Training School. After graduation he was drafted into the United States Army, where he served his country.
After serving his tour in the Army, he was joined in holy matrimony to Ruth Sands on December 15, 1957. This union was blessed with five children.
Jack worked several jobs before settling in at GA Pacific Stud Mill in Monticello. After working at GP for 23 years he retired in 1994. He enjoyed fishing, cooking, and most of all he loved driving people to their appointments. J.L. also enjoyed driving the limo for Catchings Funeral Home.
J.L. was a faithful member of Whites Chapel CME now Lakey Memorial CME in Hillsboro. He served on the Steward Board, was a Class Leader, and choir member. He loved to sing and pray.
Mr. Jack is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruth Card. His memory lives on through his children: James (J.P.) Card of Monticello; Jonathan Card (Marlene)-Lithonia; Jackie Lee Card, also of -Monticello; Linda (Jerome) McClain of Monticello; Peter Card (Cheryl) of Abu Dhabi; nine grandchildren (Candice Card, DeVon Andrews, Christopher McClain, Gavriel McClain, Dallas Card, Tiffani McClain, Shanae McClain, Simeon Card, and Solomon Card).
Also, three great-grandchildren, Hermione Greene, Lavender Greene, and Yuri Card, two sisters-in-law Ruby M. Derrricho and Ella M. Burgman and one brother-in-law Fred Sands and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friend, and friends, and one special first cousin that was like a sister to him, Josephine Beatrice Broaddus (Bea) of Columbus, Ohio.
Graveside services were to be held Wednesday July 22 at 11 a.m. at Oaklawn Cemetery in Hillsboro.
Samuel’s Memorial Funeral Home in Gray is in charge of arrangements.
