Mrs. Bernice R. Johnson

Funeral services for Mrs. Bernice Richards Johnson, who died July 26, 2020, were held Friday, July 31, at the chapel of Smith and Sons Funeral Home in Monticello.

Mrs. Johnson was born June 26, 1945 to Annie Kate LaVaughn and John Wesley Richards.

She attended the Jasper County Training School, graduating in 1964. A church-going lady, she enjoyed singing and cooking. Her specialties were sweet potato pie, baked chicken and potato salad. Her cooking could be sampled at the local Big Chick restaurant in Monticello, where she worked for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Julius Johnson, parents and four brothers, Eddie W. Richards, Willie J. Richards, John W. Richards, and George Richards.

She leaves to cherish her memories, a daughter, Tessie Reid of Eatonton; two grandchildren, a sister, Annette Richards of Jonesboro, and other relatives and friends.
