Marie Macie Cargile Elrod

Marie Macie Cargile Elrod, age 98, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2020, at The Retreat Nursing Home.

Marie Elrod was a lifelong resident of Jasper County. She was born on November 11, 1921 to the late Gordon Cargile and Janie Estell Digby Cargile.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cicero “Jack” Elrod; and brothers and sisters, Doyle Cargile, Bill Cargile, Ray Cargile, Loy Cargile, Rachel Byrd, Jean Benefield and Marjorie Roper.

Marie worked as a self-employed home nurse and attended Gathers Methodist Church.

She is survived by her brothers, Colin Cargile of Delaware and Ray Cargile of Madison; step-sons, David (Jo Ann) Elrod of Mary Esther, Florida and Lamar (Ann) Elrod of Georgetown; step-daughter, Phyllis Ayers of Hartwell; several step-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, August 11, 2020, at Tabernacle Cemetery on the Jasper/Newton County line. Chaplain Jim Ross will officiate.
