Shooting Results in Arrest; Two Others Are Sought

Last Saturday, August 29, Jasper County deputies were dispatched to a call of shots fired off Spruce Street in Monticello.

Upon arrival deputies verified the area was safe and no one was injured. Once investigators arrived, the crime scene was processed and witnesses were interviewed. By Sunday afternoon the suspects in the shooting had been identified and arrest warrants were obtained.

Sunday afternoon Quantez Jackson, 34, of Monticello was apprehended after a brief car chase and subsequent foot chase. Upon his arrest he was found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine, suspected ecstasy, marijuana as well as unlawfully possessed schedule II prescription medications. Quantez Jackson was charged with aggravated assault, fleeing and attempting to elude, possession of a schedule II controlled substance, possession of meth, possession of a schedule one controlled substance, possession of marijuana, and obstruction of an officer.

Deputies are also investigating several other incidents from the last week or two, including a theft from auto on Parrot Drive, where airpods, headphones, a car charger and Michael Kors wallet were taken. In addition, there was a motor vehicle theft on August 29 from Bear Creek Point. Deputies also recovered a firearm during the week.

Prescription drugs were taken from an address on Marshall Drive. A gun was reported to have been taken from a building in Turtle Cove, and porch chairs were taken from an address on Kelly Lane.

Also arrested in the last week was Eddie Lee Helton, 39, of Newborn who is charged with aggravated assault, cruelty to children in the second degree (two counts), criminal damage to property-2nd degree, simple battery, cruelty to children-1st degree and battery.

Antioneus Smith and Oliver Jackson are also wanted by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office for their involvement in a shooting that occurred in the city of Monticello on August 29. They each have active arrest warrants for aggravated assault.
