County Commissioner Carl Pennamon Dies

Veteran County Commissioner Carl Pennamon died Sunday of complications of COVID-19.
Mr. Pennamon had served on the Jasper County Commission since he was first elected in 1984. He would have begun his 10th term in January, as he is on ballot for November with no opposition.
He served years as chairman, and while on the commission served in many other accessory roles. He was active in the Four County Development Authority, representing Jasper County for many years.
Commissioner Pennamon also served his community on the Jasper County Recreation Authority, Board of Health, Hospital Authority, and Northeast Georgia Regional Commission.
Mr. Pennamon worked over 30 years as a supervisor at Hercules (now known as Fibervision Inc.) in Covington before retirement.
Mr. Pennamon was married to Valerie Evette Pennamon, who survives him.
He was a faithful member of St. James A.M.E Church. Mr. Pennamon unselfishly devoted his life to the community of Monticello and Jasper County.
A celebration of his life is planned for Friday, Sept. 11, at noon, at South View Cemetery, 1000 South View Street, Monticello. Rev. Reginald Jacobs will officiate.
Public visitation will take place at Smith and Sons Funeral Home, 923 Funderburg Drive, on Thursday, Sept. 10, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
A full obituary will be included in next week’s Monticello News.
