Competitive Greenway Wins Contest

Jason Greenway correctly picked the winners of all 12 games on the football contest that were played last week.

Piedmont’s game with Rock Springs was not played, leaving 12 games in contention.

Jackson Greenway also got 12 right, but was further off on the tie-breaker which was Monticello’s 49-0 loss to Putnam County.

Jason was unable to pick up his prize, but sent his wife Deanne Greenway who collected his $25 prize from Tiffany Key at the office of Tricia P. Armistead, C.P.A., sponsor of the week.

The whole Greenway family plays every week, and most, if not all, made the honor roll this week. Mrs. Greenway commented that she gets the entries together and brings them to town each week. She says, very tongue-in-cheek, “we’re not competitive.” They have been playing as a family for years and generally have some success.

This week, everyone with nine or more correct answers gets their name added to the Grand Prize Honor Roll, and a whole lot of people made it. See Honor Roll on the contest page in today’s newspaper on page 8.

This week’s contest may be more competitive, but who knows. It contains a mix of high school, college and pro games, with the emphasis on college. The SEC begins action this week.

So, it’s a new week, and a new contest. Anyone can play and anyone can win, whether novice or seasoned contest player. Just pick the winners of the 13 games listed, and guess the tie-breaker. Then submit your entry to The Monticello News office no later than 5 p.m. tomorrow, Sept. 25.

Entries may be faxed to 706-468-6576, emailed to info@themonticellonews.com or brought in person to 247 West Washington Street in Monticello, about a half-block off the Square.

This week’s winner will receive a $25 prize from Lewis & Malone Heating and Air Conditioning. Please write legibly, clearly marking your picks for the winner.

Hopefully all the games will be played this week, with 10 right being required to make honor roll. But, who knows, on any week, no telling who will win.
