Lady Canes Extend Win Streak to Six

The Jasper County High School varsity softball Lady Hurricanes are on a six game winning streak that began two weeks ago.

The squad picked up a win over Lamar County Tuesday, a night on which they honored five seniors Hailie Tripp, Bailey Jenkins, Marley Sands, Azure Guli and Allie Jones. The wins picked up where they left off with region competitor Bleckley County last week in a 9-1 victory.

“Over the past six games we have outscored our opponents 59-6 over the stretch,” said Head Coach Chris Jenkins. “We seem to be hitting our stride at the right time, and getting two region wins over teams that beat us earlier in the season gives us a good shot at hosting a state playoff series.”

He continued, “They’re a scrappy group of girls that absolutely do not quit. Bailey is getting back to her usual self and we’re playing great defense behind her. Offensively we’re finding different ways to score runs, and getting production from different parts of the lineup each game.”

During this six game win streak Kate Robinson has had 9 runs batted in (RBIs), Bailey Jenkins has 7, and Taylor Rutledge 6. Treuana Jacobs and Hailey Hooberry are batting .636 and .398, respectively.

Coach Jenkins said that combining those stats with only five walks and two errors during the same stretch, “is going to put you in a position to win games regardless of who you’re playing.”

The coach said of the recent wins, the Bleckley game was by far the most impressive.

“Anytime you can run rule the #1 team in the region, the confidence is going to carry over.”

In addition to Lamar, Bleckley, the squad posted wins over Washington, First Presbyterian Day (by a margin of 10-1), Putnam County (10-0), and Howard (10-0)) in the week prior.

The Lady Canes are currently 3-3 in the 3AA region and 8-7 overall.

The varsity squad will travel to Dodge County Friday, Sept. 24 and host FPD Tuesday, Sept. 29 before hosting Social Circle Wednesday, Sept. 30.
