Joyce Naden Burton

A celebration of life for Joyce Naden Burton, who died September 9, 2020, was held September 17, at South View Cemetery in Monticello. Rev. Ricky Hammond officiated.

Ms. Burton was born on September 27, 1978 to the parentage of Leonard Coprich and Barbara Jean Burton.

As a child, Joyce was very happy. She loved playing and visiting with family and friends. She decided to give her life to the Lord at an early age. Joyce joined St. John A.M.E. Church in Eatonton. She started her education at Butler Baker Grammar School, and graduated in 1997 from Putnam County High School, home of the Putnam County War Eagles, her favorite team.

After graduation, Joyce continued her post secondary training at Putnam Jasper Support Services in Eatonton. She was a skillful person and developed a loving bond of kinship with her associates/friends and staff. While there, Joyce became a registered athlete with Special Olympics Georgia-Putnam County.

During her youth, she played softball, basketball, ran track and excelled in bowling. Joyce had a passion for bowling as she eagerly looked forward to practicing and entering area competitions. Her skills shined as she advanced from single bowling to a four member unified bowling team. She enjoyed going to the State Masters Bowling Tournament annually.

Joyce loved attending and participating in sporting events of all kinds. She loved parties, flea markets, shopping, traveling, and eating out (especially at Ole Times Country Buffet). Joyce was a loving, caring and outgoing person who never met a stranger. She left an impression throughout her lifetime.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Barbara Jean Burton.

Joyce leaves to cherish her memories, two brothers, Jarvious Snipes of Opelika, Ala., and Leonard Coprich, Jr. of Montgomery, Ala.; a sister, Mara Coleman of Montgomery, Ala., Kathy Thomas, who was a second mother to Joyce, as well as other relatives and friends.

Smith and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
