Lady Cougars Win and Lose

The Piedmont Academy varsity softball had little trouble with visiting Covenant Academy last week.

The Lady Cougars scored nine runs in the bottom of the first inning on their way to a 15-0 victory in five innings. Piedmont had 15 hits in the contest as compared to just one for Covenant.

Jayden Young and Haley Ann Frank both had three hits to help lead the offense while Marissa Holder added two hits. Holder drove in three runs while Frank and Emily McEwen both had two RBI.

Ava Anglin drew two walks while McEwen had one.

In the pitcher’s circle, McEwen worked the first three innings while Abby Arnold pitched the final two. McEwen had four strikeouts and Arnold had two.

The Lady Cougars returned to region play on Tuesday falling to Windsor Academy 5-3 on the road in Macon.

Piedmont led 3-0 after the top of the third inning before the Lady Knights scored four runs in the bottom of the third. Windsor added one more run in the bottom of the sixth inning and overcame six defensive errors for the win.

McKayla Arnold and McEwen both had hits for the Lady Cougars. McEwen and Anglin both drove in runs.

McEwen and Averi Camp split the pitching duties and both had one strikeout.

It was the second close loss for Piedmont to Windsor this season.

The Lady Cougars (7-3-1 overall) will host LaGrange Academy on Thursday for a 5 p.m. region contest.
