Middle School Cougars Earn Tie

Piedmont Academy’s Middle School football team finished in an 8-8 tie against Windsor Academy last week.

The Cougars scored first during the road game in Macon when Hudson Reed connected with Gavin McCart with a 25-yard touchdown pass. Reed also threw to Daniel Joseph on the two-point conversion.

Piedmont continued to hold the 8-0 advantage until early in the fourth quarter when the Knights scored on a 55-yard quarterback run.

“This was a great game for these kids,” said coach Michael Wilson. “We have 27 on the roster and are really excited about what will come down the road for this group. We had only about three weeks of practice time since many are new to the school and Windsor was 2-0 and hadn’t been challenged, so to compete with them tells us this team can be a group that helps our program get back to where we feel we should be as a school.”

While pleased with how well the team played, Wilson said there is still plenty of coaching and learning ahead for the Middle School Cougars.

“This team can be very good,” the coach said. “I want this year to be a great learning experience for the kids in terms of football and also what it means to play for Piedmont. It’s a special place and it deserves great football.”

Overall, the entire played well against Windsor. In addition to Reed and Joseph, the Cougars were led defensively by Trenton Jones, Ethan Fountain, Hunter Thomson and Camden Moss.

Moss snagged an interception for Piedmont on the game’s opening drive. McCart, Joseph and Mark Myles led the Cougars offensively in receptions and rushing, respectively.

Piedmont’s Middle School football team will host Fullington on Thursday at 6 p.m.
