Lady Cane Runners Excel in Athens

The Jasper County-Monticello High School boys and girls cross country teams competed in the Kent Kramer Classic in Athens last week.

The Lady Canes finished fourth overall as a team while the boys were seventh overall in the team standings. Both teams had standout individual performances as well.

For the Jasper County-Monticello girls, sophomore JaKara Tobler was 13th overall in 26:28.32 followed by teammate Brianna Dalton, also a sophomore, in 14th place in 26:35.62.

Sophomore Brooklyn Dalton was 24th with a time of 27:59.10. Junior runner Julia Procter was 34th overall in 32:04.10 and junior Chelsey Pelley was 36th overall individually in 33:36.48.

Freshman Karen Lara (39th overall, 34:11.77) and sophomore Tammy Canterbury (40th overall, 34:16.08) also helped the Lady Canes to a fourth-place finish among nine schools.

Athens Christian School was the top overall team in the girls division followed by Mount Pisgah Christian School and Johnson High School.

For the varsity boys, junior Spencer Hamilton was 19th overall in 21:10.93. Senior runner Justyn Fields was 33d overall in 21:40.60. Junior George Smith completed the course in 42nd place in a time of 22:26.42.

Other top runners for the Canes included senior Dakota Brimberry (59th overall, 23:38.91), junior Ethan Lynch (69th overall, 25:19.24), junior Luke Nelson (70th overall, 25:22.35), freshman William Garvin (71st overall, 25:22.81), sophomore Randy Jenkins (72nd overall, 25:24.50), junior Anderson Reid (85th overall, 29:57.23), junior Noah Pitts (89th overall, 30:34.12) and sophomore Jake Tingler (96th overall, 40:49.42).

Athens Christian, Mount Pisgah, Johnson, Greene County and Archer we the top five teams overall in the varsity boys race.

The Jasper County-Monticello varsity cross country teams will compete in the Region 3-AA meet on Tuesday , Oct. 27 in Cochran. The boys’ team will compete at 11 a.m. and the girls’ team will compete at 11:30 a.m.
