L. Taylor Wins Contest On 1st Try This Year

ADAM MCGINNIS (L), LIONEL TAYLOR

Lionel Taylor, a teacher at Jasper County High School, played the Monticello News football contest for the first time this year last week, and guess what? He won!

Mr. Taylor said he has played in previous years, but this was the first week this year that he picked up a form. (Matt Tumlin, another school teacher, makes forms up for those at the school to fill out, and delivers them to The News office.)

For his effort, Mr. Taylor picked up a $25 prize from Adam McGinnis at Southern Edge Farm & Home, sponsor of the week.

Mr. Taylor’s 10 right was impressive enough, when only 11 games were in contention (two weren’t played), but to give him even more bragging rights only two people made honor roll. The other one who made the honor roll was Shania Victrum. Ms. Victrum thought she may have won, but she missed on Auburn’s loss to South Carolina and in the pros, Carolina’s loss to Chicago. Mr. Taylor also missed on South Carolina’s beating of Auburn.

Piedmont Academy at Creekside Christian was not played, and LSU at Florida was rescheduled to December 12.

It’s becoming a challenge to pick the games each week, as we don’t always know by press time if a game will not be played. So we muddle through, and ask you to guess the winners of each one listed that is played.

This week, one lucky, or talented, player will collect a $25 prize from Piedmont Academy, sponsor of the week.

Anyone can play…as Mr. Taylor showed, you don’t have to be a regular player to win. But the more times you get all but three right, your name will be added to the grand prize honor roll.

Deadline to enter is 5 p.m. tomorrow, Oct. 23. Entries may be faxed in to 706-468-6576, e-mailed to info@themonticellonews.com or brought in person to 247 West Washington Street—the big pink house about a half-block off the Square.

Remember, enter only once, write legibly, and get it here on time!
