Accidents, Burglaries Abound

No one was seriously injured when two cars collided on Eatonton Street Monday morning.

Kaitlyn Alexandria Wilbanks of Monticello was traveling west on Hwy. 16 east in a 2010 Volkswagen CC when the car in front of her slowed to turn. She did not realize the car had slowed, and hit the car in front of her. That vehicle was a 2019 Toyota Camry driven by Kaitlin Mae Brooks, also of Monticello. Both vehicles were removed by a wrecker.

Other than working accidents, Jasper County deputies have been busy looking into burglaries. There were several thefts in the last week. Most recently, on Sunday, an I-phone was taken from an address on West Washington Street. A business on West Washington Street was also broken into during the Thanksgiving holiday, and another business on Forsyth Street was broken into before the holiday.

There was a report of theft by taking concerning a dog on North Warren Street, but officers determined that was a civil dispute. A handgun was taken from an auto on Jackson Lake Road, and deputies are looking into a theft by deception on Seven Islands Road. In addition, deputies have issued a warrant for an offender who was the recipient of stolen property.
