Lady Canes Fall in Region Opener

The first region game of the season turned out to be a tough one for the Jasper County-Monticello High School varsity girls basketball team.

The Lady Hurricanes (0-3 overall, 0-1 in region) were defeated at home Tuesday by Lamar County 53-11.

It was a true learning experience for Lady Canes who is in a season of transition and rebuilding. Hailey Tripp led the team with seven points while Madison Smith and Jazmyne Thomas both scored two points.

The Lady Canes were just 1-of-8 from the free throw line.

Jasper County-Monticello’s scheduled game last Saturday at Jackson High School was not played due to COVID-19 concerns. The varsity squads will host Oconee County on Saturday, Dec. 19 at 2 p.m. in a rematch from earlier in the season.

Following Saturday’s contest the squads will host Lincoln County on Tuesday, Dec. 22.
