JCMS Hurricane Squads Sweep Cougars in Local Matchup
In a local matchup on the basketball court, the Jasper County Middle School team swept Piedmont Academy Middle School last week.
The JCMS boys took a 49-18 victory while the Lady Canes emerged with a 41-21 victory in contests hosted by Piedmont.
Kinya Thomas led the JCMS girls with 12 points while Kayla Levester added eight points. Toni Gantt and DeAasia Banks both finished with seven points. Stevi Davis scored five points for the Lady Canes.
Sarah Ellen Stroud paced the Lady Cougars with eight points. Emily Whitwell and Abby Moore both added four points for Piedmont. Kylee Keck scored three points and Carly Meredith finished with one.
JaMarkus Thomas (10 points) and Kyle LeVester (nine points) led a balanced scoring attack for the JCMS boys in their win. Nine players contributed points for the Canes including Bryce Jackson (seven), Kenyan Davis (six), Dylan Conner (five), Arrington Bostic (four), Tayshawn Reeves (four), Marquis Maddox (two) and Malik Epps (two).
The Canes led 9-4 after the first quarter and 26-12 at halftime.
Hudson Reed led with a game-high 14 points. Corbett Crews scored two while Jackson Garladi and Gabe Moore both added one point.
