Miss Ola Mae Glawson
A homegoing celebration of love for Miss Ola Mae Glawson, who died January 10, 2021, was held Saturday, Jan. 16, 2021 at Smith-Thomas Cemetery, Goolsby Road, Monticello. Gayle Middlebrooks, pastor of King’s Chapel Community Church, officiated.
Ola Mae Glawson was born July 26, 1945 to the late Arthur Lee and Fannie Lou Glawson. She was the first born of nine children.
Ola attended Jasper County Training School for only a few years; upon noticing her learning disability, which led to her being home schooled. Ola learned differently than most but was surely blessed from God with a heart of gold to love, give, and be kind. She touched lives like no other. She was witty and had a great memory.
She had a love for God, church, and all people. At an early age, Ola joined and faithfully attended King’s Chapel Community Church. Her song of praise was always for the Lord. She would always say, “I Love You” and “In the Name of Jesus.” Her favorite song was “Trouble in My Way.”
After surgery and rehabilitation, Ola made her home at The Retreat Nursing Home in Monticello. She enjoyed living there making new friends with new adventures. She loved playing Bingo, arts and crafts, the outside garden, live music, church, and Bible study.
On weekends and other days, Ola would enjoy hanging out with family. She loved going to the beach, family cookouts, going to restaurants, watching the planes take off and land, animals, and doing all activities that involved her beloved family.
Ola departed this life on January 10, 2021. She was preceded in death by a sister, Carrie Glawson Stewart.
She leaves memories behind with seven loving siblings, Shirley Vinson, Sara (Charles) Hill, Mildred (Ted) Colvard, Arthur Glawson, Jr., Rev. Terry (Vickie) Glawson, Curtis (Christina Glawson Sr. and Terrell (Wayne) Glawson Banks, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Ola was truly a gift to us and all of you. She is already greatly missed.
Special thanks to the staff at the Monticello Retreat. Ola loved you from her heart and we do too.
Smith and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
