Lady Canes Struggle

Jasper County-Monticello’s varsity girls basketball team suffered two losses last weekend.

The Lady Canes fell Friday to Lamar County in Region 3-AA action 74-18 on the road before dropping a non-region contest to Putnam County 54-24 at home.

Jazmyne Thomas led the Lady Canes against Lamar County with six points while Kate Robinson scored four.

In Saturday’s game with Putnam County, the Lady Canes had 13 points by Thomas and seven points from Hailey Tripp. Aryana Johnson made a 3-pointer.

The season has been a challenge for the varsity girls as several games have been postponed or cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns. The overall number of players on the varsity roster has also been limited.

The squad hosted Northeast-Macon in region action Tuesday falling 64-9. The Lady Canes are now 1-9 overall and 0-5 in region play.

Robinson and Tripp both made 3-pointers and Thomas added two points.
