Lady Canes Compete at Region Cheer Competition
The Jasper County-Monticello High School competition cheerleading team concluded its season with a strong performance at the region meet.
“The girls competed well,” said coach Bonnie Garvin. “We scored the highest we have in two years. However, we will not advance to state as we did not finish in the top 16. I am still very proud of the girls.”
The region meet was in Vidalia on Saturday.
Squad members include seniors Sara Wingham (co-captain), Terri Langford and Janesia Wyman; juniors Briana Dekle (co-captain), Abby Byrd, Gabby Alvarado, Jaylyn Wyatt and Kate Miller; sophomores Ashlyn Rogers, Taka Thompson, Kensle Lindsey and Amiyah Cash and freshmen Cortney Wyman, Emma Holmes, Loralye Irwin, Madeline Dekle, Keirra Clark and Madison Hardman.
Now in her second season coaching the competition cheerleaders, Garvin has been assisted this season by Stephanie Dean.
Garvin said her goal is for the program to improve with each competition and each season.
