DDA Board Recommends Two New Members to the Authority
Daniel Jeffries and Nanette Manning were selected as the recommended replacement members to fill two vacant seats on the Downtown Development Authority.
During a called meeting Monday, DDA board members Wendell Yoder, Towonder Dennis, Gail Harrell, and Virginia Spalter convened to discuss, among other items, the vacancies on the development board. Former vice president Amanda Edge resigned her seat previously and Mrs. Spalter announced that her resignation from the board for personal reasons effective March 31.
Mr. Jeffries and Mrs. Manning will have their names submitted to the Monticello City Council for approval.
Mr. Jeffries addressed the authority board earlier this month during DDA’s regular meeting.
Mrs. Manning was present Monday and made an introduction to board members. The current day care owner told members that though she is not a native of Monticello she married a “local fellow,” Robert Manning, and together they have raised six children with their youngest being a junior at Jasper County High School.
She served 24 years at Jasper County Preschool with 17 of those as the director before retiring a few years ago. Her day care provides service for ages up to three and afterschool services for age up to 12.
Mrs. Manning noted that she has worked with several different youth groups throughout the county including Youth In Action.
Authority members also took time to discuss some final preparations for the DDA Stakeholders Meeting planned for Monday, March 8 in the JCHS.auditorium. President Yoder noted that the event is intended for the community to “voice their support and voice their opinions” during a collaborative of local agencies and stakeholders on initiatives within the city.
The event will begin at 4 p.m. with an open session about walkability and street planning wiith John Devine of the Northeast Georgia Regional Commission. At 5 p.m. there will be a marketing presentations from SCB Productions of Henry County and JCHS Video Production followed by a boxed dinner prior to the DDA regular monthly meeting at 6 p.m. To reserve placement for the event contact DDA Director Michele Celani by March 1 at mcelanimonticellodda@gmail.com.
Authority members also voted to approve the replacement of an additional light fixture to LED at a cost of $90. All the lighting fixtures have been updated in The Shoppes of Monticello.
