Jim Strength Is Named High School Principal
Jim Strength, assistant principal at Jasper County High School, has been named principal of that facility effective July 1, when current Principal Buddy Cain retires.
The other assistant principal, Alicia Moore, is retiring. In addition, Washington Park Principal Susan Stone is transferring to the central office where she will be Director of Federal Programs/Student Support Services at Jasper County Board of Education. Likewise, Peyton Proctor, instructional coach at Jasper County High School will become the Director of School Safety at Jasper County Board of Education.
New hires for the Jasper County Board of Education include:
Jennifer Holloman, teacher, Jasper County Primary School.
Keely Nelms, teacher, Washington Park Elementary School
In addition, there is one resignation—Dana Barefoot, teacher, Washington Park Elementary School.
The school board also voted at Tuesday’s meeting to renew system-wide contracts for the 2021-2022 school year.
Also at Tuesday’s meeting, school board members heard from two science fair winners. Freshman Tiffany McClain won best in show for her project testing acne products. She will compete at state next. She is an honors biology student, and aspires to attend Harvard or Stanford.
Senior Gavin Jacobs did his project on sequencing DNA for the endangered plant, the black-eyed susan. He won best senior project. He plans to attend the University of Georgia to start with, and then transferring to an aerospace engineering program.
Those two were among the seven first place winners, 11 second place winners, 10 third place winners, and nine invitations to compete at state.
The board heard from the School Governance Team at Washington Park Elementary School with two people speaking about what is happening at WPES.
Supt. Kenny Garland said he was meeting with two members of the county commission on Wednesday to discuss broadband funding and Stanton Springs revenues.
The board spent some time in closed session before approving the personnel. The next meeting will be Monday, April 26, at 6 p.m. at the board office, 1178 College Street.
