Jasper County Ducks Win Georgia Cup Championship

The 17 and under Jasper County Ducks basketball travel team, which is led by a local group of coaches, defeated the Quiet Storm 60-55 in the Georgia Cup championship title game last weekend held at the Suwanee Sports Academy.

The Ducks took the early lead as turnovers hampered the Quiet Storm. The Ducks took a commanding lead in the first half and held on for a double digit lead into the second half. The Storm came roaring back to cut the lead to a single possession but the Ducks held on to secure the win and the trophy.

The squad includes two Jasper County High School athletes junior Zy Standifer and freshman Kemarion Thomas, Northeast High School junior Zion Odom, Newton County High School sophomore Ashton Pennamon, Jones County High School junior Chaydon Stone, and Social Circle High School junior K.J. Reid, sophomore A.J. Vinson, junior Cam Gaither, and sophomore Phillip Baynes, Jr.

The team is coached by Damian “Petie” Tripp, Chill Gude, Clint LaVaughn, and DeAntre Smith.

Coach Tripp said that the travel squad will travel to Alabama on April 2 to play in the Hoop Scenes Bama Jam and that a competition in Kansas is scheduled for later this season.
