COVID-19 Vaccines Available
Jasper County’s COVID-19 vaccination rates are increasing as vaccines are becoming more available.
Jasper Memorial Hospital has received 3,600 total doses of Moderna as of this week. Though the estimates are rough, Administrator Jan Gaston noted that 1,800 complete vaccinations of two doses had been administered thus far and that some 750 persons will have received one dose by the week’s end if scheduled appointments hold.
“Next week is a busy week with the second dose of eligible people 55+ or anyone with chronic conditions,” said Mrs. Gaston. “We will also be vaccinating school staff second doses that desired the Moderna vaccine.”
The administrator also noted that approximately 75 percent of the Jasper Memorial Hospital and Primary Care Center employees have received the vaccine with the majority having completed the two dose series.
Anyone desiring a vaccine that is 18 years or older can schedule an appointment on the JMH website at www.jaspermemorialhospital.org
Jasper Memorial has not received any Johnson & Johnson (J&J) or Pfizer vaccines. However the Jasper County Health Department has been administering the Moderna and the Johnson & Johnson vaccines.
According to data from the North Central Health District 3,163 total doses of either vaccine has been administered in Jasper County by the health department with 2,284 as first doses.
Across the NCHD, the following dosages have been reported: 10,6250 Moderna vaccine doses requested; 78370 Moderna vaccine received; 62,366 Moderna vaccine doses administered; 2,885 J&J vaccine doses requested; 6,460 J&J vaccine doses received; and 3,499 J&J vaccine doses administered.
The NCHD said that it’s staff is currently working through vaccinating all individuals as quickly as possible. Appointments for vaccination are available through the week of April 5-10, and are quickly being filled. The district schedules vaccination based on the supply of COVID-19 vaccine on-hand in order to ensure individuals can receive vaccine as scheduled.
