Middle School Canes Edge Cougars On Baseball Field
The rematch went to the Jasper County Middle School baseball team in the second game of the spring between the local programs.
JCMS held on for a 7-6 home win against Piedmont Academy’s Middle School team last week. The Cougars scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning and had 12 hits in the game as compared to six for JCMS but still fell one run short.
Piedmont jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first before the Canes answered with five in the bottom half of the inning. JCMS led 6-1 going into the fourth inning when the Middle School Cougars scored two runs.
The Canes held a three-run lead after scoring a run in the bottom of the sixth. JCMS then held on in the top of the seventh.
Ethan McMichael earned the win going all seven innings and striking out nine batters. Tyler Griswell and Alex Statham handled the pitching duties for Piedmont with both striking out four batters.
Jamus Wingate had four hits for the Cougars while Coby Cook and Sawyer Freeman both had two. Freeman drove in two runs for Piedmont and Cook had one RBI. Levi Hood had two RBI for the Middle School Canes.
Gavin Bennett and J Thomas both drew two walks for JCMS.
