MS Cougars Fall in Offensive Contest
There were some runs and then there were some more runs in Monday’s Middle School baseball game between Piedmont Academy and Creekside.
After those runs were scored, the teams put even more on the board as Creekside held on for a 19-14 victory in Monticello.
It was a game of big innings as the Cougars scored seven runs in the bottom of the first for an early lead. In this contest, however, no lead was safe. Creekside scored three runs in the top of the first and added two more in the second before pushing eight runs across in the top of the fourth.
The offensive display continued for Creekside as the visitors scored three in the fifth and three more in the seventh.
Piedmont, meanwhile, added two runs in the third inning and one in the fifth. Trailing 19-10 going into the bottom of the seventh, the Cougars pushed four additional runs across but fell five runs short.
Gavin McCart had three hits for Piedmont. McCart also pitched 2.1 innings and recorded five strikeouts. Alex Statham also saw time on the pitcher’s mound and had three strikeouts.
Creekside and Piedmont met last month with the game ending in a 5-5 tie. The rematch provided much more offensive firepower.
