JCMS Soccer Canes Finish Season Second in PAC League

The Jasper County Middle School (JCMS) boys soccer team fell short to Morgan County 4-2 in the championship game played last week in Madison, but not before a solid effort.

Angel Martin and Wyatt Burris scored goals for the Canes while Ricardo Sanchez-Hernandez and Alex Torres had strong performances in goal.

Wesley Burris, Christopher White, Carson Clark and Will Martin helped work the midfield for the Canes while the defensive effort was led by Julio Sanchez.

The JCMS boys defeated Putnam County Middle School in the semifinals and earned an overtime win.

The Canes took the lead in the first half after a direct kick from Will Morgan with help from Carson Clark to crowd the goal.

Putnam returned the favor and scored with eight minutes left in the game to tie the score at 1-1.

In the first overtime, the game remained tied. With only eight seconds left in the second overtime, Wesley Burris kicked the ball out of the goalie’s hand and walked the ball in to the goal for the winning score.

The Canes were led defensively by goalie Sanchez-Hernandez alongside Julio Sanchez, Lane Lackey, Bryson Jackson and Zion Blake. Wyatt Burris also played well at midfield, coaches said, with Christopher White and Will Morgan helping assist the team on offense.

The JCMS girls faced Morgan County in the semifinal round last week. The Lady Canes fell short and took a fourth-place finish in the Piedmont Athletic Conference region tournament.

Grace DeGarmo played goalie and had numerous saves on goal, while Madelyn Taylor worked hard to put things together offensively for the Canes. Chloe Key, Sara Alexander, Ariana Reyes and Addison Jones worked hard defensively to fight off the Bulldogs.

The teams are coached by Ashley Clegg, David Ramsey, and Karen Hays.
