Canes Boys Soccer To Host First Round of State Friday

The Monticello Hurricanes boys soccer team has been busy winning games, taking them to the state playoffs with an 11-5 season record and clinching a second place region rank.

In the past two weeks the Canes claimed wins over Northeast Macon, 10-0 at home and on the road. Goals were scored by Alan Torres (one), Chandler Dunning (four), Sammy Nunez (three), Austin Link (six), Ethan Proctor (two), Estevan Vera (one) Two players also scored their first varsity goals, Michael Abner with one goal, and Randy Jenkins with two.

The Canes also won against Bleckley County last week with a score of 2-1, goals for the Canes were scored by Dunning and Proctor.

Then, to wrap up the regular season the Canes beat Dodge County 4-3 with goals scored by Dunning, Nunez, Proctor, and Link. The Canes victory over Dodge knocked the Indians out of the state playoffs.

This season has been the best season in recent soccer history for the school, according to the coach. The Canes will be the first team to bring a state playoff contest to the new athletic facility.

Make sure to come support the Canes Friday, April 30 at the Hurricane Complex against Jeff Davis in the first round of 3AA state playoffs. The game starts at 5:30 p.m.
