Lady Canes Soccer Fall in Final Game of the 2021 Season
The Jasper County-Monticello High School varsity girls soccer team dropped a close 3-2 match with Dodge County last Friday bringing to a close the 2021 season.
The Lady Canes needed to win against Dodge County by at least two goals to place fourth in Region3-AA and advance to the playoffs.
Coach Angela Savage said her team worked fast to score and take control of the match.
“We ran an attacking game from the start of the clock,” Savage said.
Both teams scored goals in the first half. The Lady Canes were able to score another goal in the second half. Dodge County was able to put another goal in the net to tie the score.
The Lady Indians were able to get another goal and the Lady Canes were not able to tie the score again to go into overtime.
Jasper County-Monticello made 24 attempts on goal Friday night. Julia Proctor had six attempts, Becky Leigh Wilson had 10 attempts and one goal and Betz Martin had three attempts and one goal.
Marlene Torres had an assist and Nat Santoyo had five attempts and one assist. Kate Robinson made 13 saves in goal.
“It was a nail- biter of a game,” Savage said. “These girls had a tough season but fought it out to the very end. I am extremely proud of these athletes and know the best is yet to come from these teams next year.”
