Hurricane Tracksters Prepare for Region Meet
The Jasper County-Monticello High School varsity track teams turned more standout times and performances last week as the Canes and Lady Canes eye the Region 3-AA meet this week.
During the April 13 home meet, Oriaya Thurman was second in the triple jump for the Jasper County-Monticello girls with a mark of 29-9. Julia Proctor was third in the pole vault at 5-6.
For the boys, Graeme Williams was runner-up in the 200-meter dash in 22.34.
Other top finishes for the boys included:
•4×100-meter relay team, fourth, 45.22
•Geralynn Benton, fourth, high jump, 5-8
•Shamarian Greene, fourth, long jump, 19-2
•Randy Williams, fifth, high jump, 5-8
•Benton, fifth, triple jump 38-7.5
•Kemarion Thomas, sixth, 800-meter run, 2:24.84
Other top finishers for the Lady Canes were:
•Brianna Dalton, third, 3,200-meter run, 15:35.26
•Brooklyn Dalton, fourth, 3,200-meter run, 18:30.58
•Marlee Farrar, fifth, discus, 67-4
•JaKara Tobler, fifth, 800-meter run, 2:51.17
•4×100-meter relay team, fifth, 5:05.63
Also competing at the event were Griffin, Mary Persons, Baldwin, Lamar County, Upson Lee and Central Macon.
The Region 3-AA meet was scheduled for Wednesday of this week hosted by Jasper County-Monticello.
