Piedmont Tracksters Set New School Records

Piedmont Academy’s track athletes had the chance to compete on the state’s big stage last week.

Several Cougars and Lady Cougars took part in the GISA Class AA state track meet in Locust Grove and had record-setting performances.

Marissa Holder represented the Piedmont girls and finished ninth in the shot put (28-4.5), tenth in the discus (74-0) and 14th in the 1,600-meter run (7:21.65).

Holder’s mark in the shot put was a new school record. She previously set a new school record for discus at the region meet.

Spencer Carter was state runner-up in the high jump (6-0). That mark established a new school record.

Carter was also ninth in the triple jump (38-5).

Michael Joseph was sixth in the boys 400-meter dash (57.08) and Cole Wade was sixth in the 300-meter hurdles (47.99) for the Piedmont boys. Wade’s mark was also a school record.

The 4×100-meter relay team of Chris Pittman, Bradley Greenwood, Tanner Locklear and Ryan Kennemore was fourth (45.84).

Ryan Kennemore finished eighth in the long jump (18-8) and triple jump (39-0). The triple jump mark was also a school record.

The 4×400-meter-relay team of Mark Myles, Cole Wade, Spencer Carter and Michael Joseph was eighth overall setting a new program record.
