Mrs. Martha Battle Gainey, fondly known as “Aunt Dolly” to her family and friends, was born September 13, 1932, to the parentage of the late Henry Battle, Sr. and Ella Sands Battle McMichael. She was educated in the Jasper County School System. In her early years she attended Rock Zion C.M.E. Church.

On February 27, 1949, Martha married the love of her life, Lenton Gainey and joined King’s Chapel Community Church. Martha worked at Farmer’s and Merchant Bank in Eatonton for 20 years as a Proof Operator.

Martha served King’s Chapel in many capacities: secretary for 40 years, sung in the choir, Usher President for 10 years, 50 plus years on Hospitality Committee, Pastor Support Committee and Martha and Lenton were named the first King and Queen.

In 1999, Jasper County Commission designated February 27th as Lenton and Martha Gainey Day. Martha always worked to make sure everything was in its proper place to beautify King’s Chapel.
