Michael Gene Bankston

Michael Gene Bankston, age 48, of Monticello, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 31, 2021, at his residence.

Gene was born in Atlanta on November 2, 1972, to Patsy Jeanne Allen and the late Michael Jay Bankston. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Gail; Granny Louise; Uncle Ben; and his grandparents.

Gene lived in Covington before moving to Monticello in 1990. He never met a stranger and loved all types of vehicles, especially trucks and cars. His beloved dog, Maggie was his best companion.

He is survived by his mother and step-father, Patsy Allen and Jonathan Cantrell of Monticello; sister, Christy (Robert) Alexander of Augusta; brother, Alan (Stefanie) Rabun of Augusta; step-grandmother, Shirley Gilbert of Newborn; a number of nieces, nephews and cousins; and caregiver, Millie Preffer of Covington.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at Lawnwood Memorial Park in Covington. Minister Robert Alexander will officiate.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Covington Elks Lodge #1806.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m., Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at Jordan Funeral Home.
