Florence McCord Pope
Florence McCord Pope, age 101, passed away Saturday, August 28, 2021, at The Retreat Nursing Home.
Florence Pope was born on July 18, 1920 in Danielsville, Ga. to the late Marvin O. McCord and Felicia Morrison McCord. She graduated from Jackson High School in Jackson and moved to Monticello after marrying the late James Lovic Benton, Jr. in 1939.
Florence enjoyed working in her yard, planting flowers and plants, watching the Braves and the Atlanta Falcons; visiting and taking care of people and cooking. Before retirement, she owned and operated Florence’s Gift and Jewelry Store in Monticello.
In addition to her parents and first husband, she was preceded in death by Clark Turner “C. T.” Pope; daughter, Felicia M. Benton; son, James Lovic Benton, III; grandson, James Bradley Benton; and granddaughter, Mildred “Millie” Kitchens.
She is survived by her daughter, Alice B. (Walter) Tillman of Monticello; son, John W. Benton of Eatonton; granddaughters, Lisa T. (Randy F.) Lister of Macon and Stephanie (Dennis) Filingeri of Stone Mountain; great-grandchildren, DeLaney (Thomas) Knight, Dylan T. Lister, Rosabella Victoria Filingeri, Makanna Jarrett, Walter Jarrett, Mattie Kitchens and Wyatt Kitchens.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, August 30, 2021, at West View Cemetery. Wes Tanner will officiate.
