Charlie Lee Williams
A celebration of life for Deacon Charlie Lee Williams, Sr., who died August 30, 2021, was held Tuesday, Sept. 7, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Madison. Rev. Derrick Reid was eulogist.
Mr. Williams was born on January 16, 1947 to the late Deacon L.Z. Williams, Jr. and the late Annie Pearl (Rainey) Williams.
After graduating from Jasper County Training High School in 1964, he was drafted by the U.S. Army where he served his country for two years. Deacon Williams was injured while on tour in Vietnam and was awarded a Purple Heart. Deacon Williams was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1968.
Deacon Williams enjoyed fishing, going to church, relaxing in his recliner, tending to his cows, and being with his family and friends…and pineapple cake!
At an early age, Deacon WIlliams accepted Christ and became a Deacon at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Madison.
In 1968, he was joined in matrimony to his wife, Sarah (Martin) Williams, and they enjoyed 53 wonderful years together. From this union four children were born.
Deacon Williams leaves to cherish his memories, his loving and deveoted wife, Sarah; two sons, Charlie Lee Williams, Jr. and Roberto Torroes Williams, Sr.; two daughters, Demetria Sheree Williams and Tokeshia Daniel Russell (Adrian), all of Farrar; brother, Deacon Jimmy Williams (Elizabeth) of Lithonia; a sister, Shirley Gotch of Connecticut; 13 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two aunts, and two uncles. Also, a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Smith and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
