Betty Jo Banks McClendon
Betty Jo Banks McClendon, age 81, of Monticello, passed away Saturday, Oct. 16, 2021, at Piedmont Newton Hospital in Covington.
Betty McClendon was born in Covington to the late James and Hilda Inez Newby Banks. She was a lifelong resident of Jasper County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Nesbit “Neb” McClendon, Sr. and son, James Marty McClendon.
Betty enjoyed sitting on the front porch, doing yard work, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Before retirement, Betty was the secretary for the Monticello Police Department.
She is survived by her children, Connie (Robert) Langley of Covington and John Nesbit McClendon, Jr. of Monticello; daughter-in-law, Barbara Walberg McClendon of Monticello; special friend, Arthur Gordon of Monticello; grandchildren, Michael (Sara) McClendon, David (Tosha) Gwyn and grand dog, Lulu Langley; great-grandchildren, Micaela G. McClendon, Piper E. McClendon, Parker J. McClendon, Maddox T. McClendon, Chiane M. Gwyn; brother, James (Johnnie) Banks of Monticello; nephew, Chris Banks of Jackson; along with many other family members and close friends.
A private family graveside service will be held Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021, at Prospect United Methodist Church Cemetery in Mansfield. Rev. Ryan Wyatt will officiate.
