Lady Canes Finish Third Overall; Thomas Paces Boys at Washington

It was a successful day for the Jasper County-Monticello High School cross country program.

The Lady Canes placed third overall last Thursday at the Washington County High School Invitational in Sandersville. A total of seven schools competed in the varsity girls 5K.

JaKara Tobler was seventh overall in 23:42.68 for Jasper County-Monticello. Brianna Dalton was 12th individually in 25:17.75.

Chelsey Pelley (27:29.83), Sarah Carnes (28:10.35) and Abby Beatty (34:03.68) also helped pace the Lady Canes. Jasper County-Monticello finished behind only Vidalia and First Presbyterian in the team standings.

For the varsity boys, Kemarion Thomas was second overall in the 5K event in 17:50.45. Only Vidalia’s Daniel Hodges (17:47.05) finished before Thomas.

The Canes finished fifth overall as a team and were also paced by Paul Zimmerman (20:43.87), Dylan Brimberry (21:27.81), Christian Nelson (21:54.28), George Smith (21:58.89), William Garvin (22:37.41), Michael Abner (22:53.40), Asa Carnes (23:05.97), Noah Pitts (24:52.05) and William Tingler (35:06.01).

Jasper County Middle School’s Powell Gooslby competed in the boys 2K and finished first overall in 11:50.86 just ahead of Vidalia Middle School’s Cash Driggers (11:50.92).
