Mat Canes Set for Area Duals
All wrestling eyes on are this weekend’s area duals as the Jasper County-Monticello High School team enters the event with plenty of momentum.
The Mat Canes won two home matches on Tuesday of this week defeating Rutland High School 54-30 and Peach County 54-36. Coach Andy Rewis said several team members performed well and emerged with two wins.
Going 2-0 for Jasper County-Monticello were Brody Rice (106), Trent Durham (113), Gabe Evans (126), Anderson Reid (145), Rylee Morse (160), Ethan Chapman (170) and Levi Shaw (heavyweight).
Last week the Mat Canes took part in the East Metro Duals hosted by Loganville High School. Reid (145) and Val Davis (220) both placed in the top four of their respective weight class.
Owen Diaz (heavyweight) won first in the JV division as Ethan Shapiro (160) and Jacob Mathis (195) also placed.
“It was a chance for them to compete against wrestlers their own age,” said Rewis. “They saw that they could do pretty well.”
The area duals will be Saturday at Putnam County High School in Eatonton.
