Mat Canes Finish Third

Jasper County-Monticello High School took third at the team area duals on Saturday in Eatonton.

The Mat Canes will now compete at state sectionals on Saturday at Dade County High School.

At area duals, they defeated Northwest-Macon and Southwest-Macon while falling to first-place Lamar County and second-place Putnam County.

“It turned out about like I thought it would,” said coach Andy Rewis. “We are getting better right now. Lamar and Putnam are just better than us at this point.”

The four-team state sectional event will also feature Berrien County and Glenn Hills. The Mat Canes will face Berrien County in their opening match.

“We are hoping to get two wins,” Rewis said.
