Fire Destroys Home Tuesday Morning

On January 18, Jasper County Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire at 208 Benton Street.

Units arrived on scene to find heavy smoke conditions and partial roof collapse on the back side of the structure.

The call was reported at 6:35 a.m. and dispatched at 6:36 a.m. Engine 3 and Medic 3 were first to arrive at 6:48 a.m. Most of the contents were a loss. The home was owned and occupied by Barbara James who was not at home at the time of the fire.

Occupant stated that she was having electrical problems the night prior and decided to spend the night at another location. Cause of the fire is believed to be electrical in nature but is still under investigation. No injuries were reported.

Crews cleared the scene at 10:01 a.m. and returned three times to check for any hot spots with none found.
